Connect with usThe Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has confirmed that the new ULEZ will take effect from 8th April 2019, 17 months earlier than originally planned, to help reduce roadside pollution in the capital.
Around 50,000 people in the UK die prematurely each year due to air pollution, 9,000 of them from the London area alone.
This early introduction has created some very tight deadlines for operators to make sure their vehicles abide by the new regulations to avoid additional daily charges of £100. The penalty for entering the zone with a non-compliant vehicle without paying the charge, is £1000.
The ULEZ, which will initially be the same area as the congestion charge zone, will impact on all diesel vehicles that don’t meet Euro VI emission standards. The mayor also plans to consult on expanding the area to cover nearly all of Greater London in 2020.
ULEZ will replace the T-Charge which has just come into effect but the charge will be in addition to the current congestion fees.
