Eminox offers last-minute solutions for vehicles still not compliant with second phase of LEZ

As the second wave of the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) enforcement takes effect today, Eminox, the UK’s largest manufacturer of emission control systems, is urging affected operators that there is still time to comply. The second wave of enforcement affects all buses, coaches and diesel-engined trucks over 3.5 tonnes and requires vehicles to meet the Euro III particulate matter (PM) standard. Transport for London (TfL) is giving a 28-day grace period in which non-compliant vehicles will not be served with a penalty charge.

Eminox, the leading supplier of LEZ abatement technology, offers two technologies: the Continuously Regenerating Trap (CRT®) and Fuel Borne Catalyst (FBC) systems, both of which are deliverable within the concession time frame. Both systems have been used by truck operators in the first phase of the LEZ implementation, and unlike partial exhaust filters offering compliance, Eminox’s abatement solutions ensure vehicles meet both the 2008 and 2012 Euro III and IV particulate matter standards, which is when the LEZ standard will be tightened.

Eminox Director for Marketing Mike Galey said: “We helped operators of the heavier trucks affected by the first enforcement of the LEZ in February with a cost-effective, long-term solution. We’d like to reiterate this message for those with smaller trucks, coaches, and buses facing compliance. If operators act now, there is still enough time to order a custom-designed Eminox LEZ abatement solution within the time frame of TfL’s 28-day grace period.”

The CRT® and FBC systems both reduce PM over 90 per cent, and are specially designed for each vehicle. The systems are also RPC and LEC certified, and Eminox has been approved by TfL to carry out the RPC and LEC tests on vehicles. This allows the company to offer a service in which systems are fitted and vehicles tested at the same place and time. This alternative to VOSA testing has proved valuable to many operators, particularly as VOSA testing centres get busier during the LEZ grace period.
