Eminox designs market-leading exhausts, specialist pipes, silencers and exhaust aftertreatment systems which use innovative diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies and the latest SCR technology to reduce harmful pollutants from heavy-duty equipment and vehicles across multiple sectors.

Ceramex is a leading international supplier of DPF remanufacturing and cleaning services to major OEMs with facilities across the UK, Europe, Japan and North America.

In 2024 Eminox acquired SaveGuard which designs and manufactures highly technical and innovative thermal and acoustic insulation products to OEMs. These products and solutions expand the Eminox Group’s value offering and enhances the technological capabilities with a wide range of automotive products used in vehicle exhausts.

The Controls team develop and deliver embedded electronic systems to exceed customer expectations. These systems range from complete aftertreatment systems to telematics and cloud-based solutions. The department is also responsible for the embedded elements of new technology and research projects. Development takes place using scrum and agile methods whilst also delivering the work products of a “V” development.

As a Control Engineer you will be a crucial part of an established team, developing control strategies and electronic systems targeted at lowering vehicle emissions. The role is focused on writing formal requirements, implementing these through model-based development (Simulink) and verifying the solution using MiL and HiL techniques. The role would suit an individual passionate about model based automotive electronics development who has practical experience with vehicles and expertise with CAN and calibration tools. The control strategies often link directly with external electrical hardware so knowledge in this area would be very beneficial.

Key responsibilities: 

  • • Take responsibility for the definition and delivery of small sub-systems within the broader control systems
    • Propose interactions between subsystems
    • Prototype smaller systems from customer level requirements
    • Have a sound understanding of the subsystems developed and how they interact with the wider system architecture and hardware
    • Define and execute test plans at the unit and integration level
    • Customer interface as a support role
    • Support interaction with suppliers
    • Support/lead initial application calibration development, testing and handover
    • Create/Contribute to costing and timing plans
    • Identify sensors and actuators required as part of a system design
    • Mentor junior members
    • Develop and maintain internal tools
    • Break down customer requirements into system and software requirements
    • Implement software/models to deliver the functionality of requirements
    • Write regression tests to prove functionality is delivered – both MiL and HiL
    • Test sensors and actuators to be used as part of control system and develop fault detection
    • Design and document electrical looms for control systems
    • Process large datasets to gain insights into the control strategy behaviour and performance
    • Follow and contribute to the Eminox software development process
    • Peer review colleagues work
    • Demonstrate a methodical approach to development and strive to deliver the simplest solution

Key skills: 

  • • Ability to write formal requirements for both systems and software
    • Ability to implement software/models to deliver the functionality of requirements
    • Encapsulate functionality with clearly defined interfaces
    • Proficient Simulink and Stateflow user
    • Experienced with a scripting language such as Matlab or Python
    • Configure and use CAN tools such as CANalyser
    • Configure and use Calibration tools such as CANape
    • Familiarity with the setup and operation of HiL rigs (dSPace)
    • Working with version control tools such as SVN and GIT
    • Use of issue tracking and management software such as Jira
    • Understand electrical datasheets to specify sensors and actuators
    • Engine dyno testing experience
    • Capable of using an Oscilloscope to test functionality or diagnose issues
    • Handling large datasets in software
    • Appreciation of machine learning and big data
    • Excellent and determined problem solver
    • Team player: work effectively within teams and liaise across functions
    • Organisation skills: able to handle multiple projects and manage time effectively
    • Effective communication and presentation skills
