Eminox’s Niki Welch crowned 2018 Air Quality Champion at National Air Quality Awards

Against tough competition, Niki Welch, Head of Retrofit Engineering at Eminox, has won the prestigious 2018 Air Quality Champion award at the National Air Quality Awards, for his work in reducing harmful gas emissions from diesel heavy-duty vehicles. This has contributed to a 25,000 tonne reduction in NOx emissions from buses and trucks over the last 10 years alone, improving air quality, safeguarding public health and saving lives.

Since joining Eminox 21 years ago, Niki has been involved in developing over 100 different NOx-reducing exhaust after-treatment systems, which have been retrofitted to more than 4,500 buses across the UK and in cities around the world including Copenhagen, Barcelona and Hong Kong. He is currently leading a team working with Transport for London on the world’s largest SCRT retrofit programme, which aims to improve 5,000 buses across London. Eminox has been involved in designing, manufacturing and fitting over 65% of London bus upgrades in the last year.

“This award highlights the tremendous impact that Niki Welch and his team have had on air quality and public health around the world,” Carlos Vicente, Retrofit Sales Director “Niki is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award, which is very much a testament to the strength of Eminox’s technology and approach. It shows how a medium-sized, family-run business is delivering global results for our multi-national customers from our Lincolnshire base.”

Organised by AirQualityNews.com in partnership with Mercedes Benz Trucks, the National Air Quality Awards are now in their fourth year, with winners announced earlier this month, following on from the National Air Quality Conference. The ceremony was opened by Geraint Davies, MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Air Pollution. Other winners included Leeds City Council, Greater London Authority and London Electric Vehicle Company.

Carlos Vicente, Retrofit Sales Director for Eminox said:

“Eminox was the first company to gain CVRAS accreditation on buses and refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) and we’ve now achieved another first on coaches with the Volvo B9R.

“Eminox leads the market in emissions reduction for buses and coaches and our presence at Euro Bus Expo demonstrates our commitment to the sector – and plans for the future.

“Time is running out to equip coach and bus fleets for the London ULEZ and the growing number of Clean Air Zones (CAZ). We invite operators to talk to us about their needs and how we can use our experience and expertise to help them achieve Euro VI standards ahead of the deadline.”

To act as a focus for its work in the coach market, Eminox has also launched its new Clean Air Zone Retrofit Development Centre. Their team is working closely with industry partners to achieve further CVRAS accreditations for a wide range of vehicles ahead of the London ULEZ and other emissions zones.

Eminox retrofit emissions systems can upgrade heavy duty vehicles to Euro VI emission standards, at a fraction of the cost of buying a new vehicle.

Our SCRT® technology meets the requirements for London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), Clean SCRT-near-zero-emissions-graphic.jpgAir Zones (CAZ) and Scottish Low Emission Zones (LEZ). It is proven to reduce emissions by up to 99% in real world, urban operations.
