Brian Bates, Technical Sales here at Eminox, is celebrating an amazing 40 years with the business this month!
The Early Days
Brian joined Eminox when it was just a ‘start-up’ in the 1980’s and since then has had a career which has seen him achieve many notable career highlights and ground-breaking achievements for Eminox, beginning with the introduction of the innovative Eminox vertical stack conversion (VSC) which he worked closely on with David Milles, Eminox co-founder.
Pioneering Technology
In the eighties and nineties emissions solutions were in their infancy, yet the Eminox team were innovators in pioneering technology development. Working closely with development partners, such as Johnson Matthey Brian has been an integral part in the Eminox journey and has always had great people skills, building strong relationships with customers and colleagues alike. In 1992 a patent was granted for a new mounting system which reduced parts and provided flexibility for Eminox’s VSC. This was closely followed by an appearance, of Brian, on iconic technology show Tomorrow’s World hosted by Carol Vorderman to promote the, then new, CRT®.
Later in the decade the CRT® had really taken off, especially in the Swedish market, and on the back of that longstanding partnerships, still in existence today, were established with some of the world’s biggest engine manufacturers.
Global Collaborations
As emissions reductions became more important to governments, Brian continued work with global truck manufacturers to support them as they progressed from Euro II and III standards, and now Euro 6 and 7 in the 21st century.
Businessman of the Year
In 2010, Brian was delighted to receive the ‘Businessman of the Year’ at the Gainsborough Business Awards, a well-deserved accolade then and now as his ideas and knowledge-sharing continue to empower and enthuse colleagues and customers still today
Brian has travelled the world with Eminox, championing emissions reduction solutions in South America, Europe and Asia and now in his fourth decade at Eminox is still travelling the world to support decision-making with manufacturing companies, government departments and pioneering organisations as they drive towards a net zero future.
The Future
He continues to have a huge impact on emissions control and exhaust aftertreatment systems and during his long, successful career he has secured joint patents for system development, led OEM sales and built a strong platform for the future. In 2021 Brian was proud to be selected to represent Eminox at the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise awards hosted by HRH Prince Charles (now His Majesty King Charles III) where he collected the award for International Trade on behalf the Eminox team.
Speaking of his time with Eminox Brian said, “There has been some great times during my forty years here, but above all I feel valued and very proud to have enjoyed such a long career with the business.
“In forty years, as you would expect, there has been a lot of change, but it’s this that has kept propelling the business and me forwards. Always learning, always challenging to be and do better and working with customers to achieve so many fantastic things.”
Jonathan Griffith, Managing Director, Eminox commented; “I have worked with Brian for a very short time in his career, but his depth of knowledge and passion for the industry and for Eminox specifically is clear, alongside the fact that he is incredibly well liked and well respected by his colleagues, peers, customers and fellow industry experts.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his service and achievements to date and I look forward to working with him for years to come.”
