Creation of world first Methane Powered Tractor supported by Eminox

The methane powered tractor is a pioneering project, which will see the creation of the world’s first ‘fugitive liquid’, methane powered tractor, is to be supported with an Eminox exhaust aftertreatment system.

The £15.6m project led by CNH Industrial, Eminox, along with other consortium members Bennamann Ltd and European Thermodynamics Ltd, forms part of the £73m Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) UK funding, which has been award to five different automotive projects to develop clean transport technology.

“This is a truly innovative project, and we are delighted to be part of the team that will develop a pioneering and game changing, net-zero alternative for the agricultural sector. The heavy-duty agricultural vehicle will harness the potential of methane, produced by livestock, and utilise it as a renewable fuel solution.”

“To achieve net-zero it is important that innovative projects such as this in the automotive sector are funded, and that collaborative working is established to draw on the expertise of each partner. This vital research and development will be a significant step towards transport decarbonisation and will draw on some of the world’s best businesses to find new ways of doing things to achieve global goals.”

One of five projects funded by APC, it is expected that the combined projects will save the CO2 equivalent emissions of nearly 1 million cars over their lifetimes.

Eminox will develop a bespoke emissions reduction solution technology recognising that alternative fuel solutions will require emissions control whilst bridging the cap to a cleaner, greener future.

The methane powered tractor project is expected to support 700 jobs in the UK.
